Warm-up Process Paper

Q Grading Rubric: Warm-up Process Paper Logistics • No more than 3 pages in length • Typed and Double Spaced • No Heading Necessary • Hand it in electronically through Canvas The Assignment • Write out your 20-30 minute Voice/Movement warm-up. (You should have all of the exercises that you might want to include in your warm-up- taking out any exercises if you have to shorten the warm-up). • Only include exercises that you have learned in this class. • Develop your ideal warm-up process that combines: Physical Exercises, Vocal Exercises and Speech/Articulation Exercises. • Combine Text Work. • This Warm-up is your preparation for Rehearsals, Acting Classes, Auditions or Performances. • This warm-up is what you will take away from this first term of Voice/Movement and use on your own when preparing to act. • You should select the exercises that are most effective for you- this is your personalized warm-up. Format • The paper should be in paragraph form. In each paragraph discuss and describe which exercises you are selecting and then explain why they are effective for you. • The paper should follow the sequence of your warm-up form beginning to end. IN the paper explain why you are choosing to begin the way you do and end the way you do. Evaluation The evaluation will be on your ability to articulate: 1. Selection of Exercises: Why have selected each exercise? 2. Sequencing: Why is this the best sequence for you? 3. Effect: What effect each exercise is intended to have on your Body, Breath, Voice, Articulators, Mind, etc., as you prepare. 4. Quality of the Blue Print: I will evaluate whether this paper is something that you can and will be able to use in the future- whether it is a good Blue Print for you to build upon. Grading A Everything above is clear and detailed. B Everything is clear but some detail is missing. For example perhaps you have not articulated sufficiently depth why the exercises and the sequence work best for you. C Everything is in touched on this paper but it is too general. I am not sure why you have chosen the exercises and I am not sure why they work best for you. Furthermore, the sequence of the exercises could be more thoughtful. D The work is turned in but it is incomplete.

I. Physical Exercises- To begin with the physical exercise, I start by sitting cross-legged, hands on the knees inhaling and exhaling slowly. At the same time, my eyes are closed for about 1-2 minutes to appreciate my body, my life, and my circumstances. I am moving to a child's pose to help me gently stretch my back, hips, thighs, and ankles. Continuing to face the dog and low lunge, the warrior, these exercises are suitable for hip flexors; the psoas muscle stretches my hamstrings and calves, strengthens the upper arms and legs, and improves balance. Cat/Cow stretch for a good reason; It involves moving the spine from a rounded position to an arched one (extension).
